Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez is a Venezuelan businessman who is Chairman and CEO of an engineering, procurement, and construction company. Betancourt was born in Caracas, Venezuela, on October 15, 1980. His father is the late Venezuelan politician and former President of Venezuela, Carlos Andrés Pérez. He attended the Colegio El Bosque in Caracas, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Universidad Central de Venezuela. He also holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government (2011).
Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez started his career at the age of 22 as a construction manager for his father’s company Alejandro Betancourt y Cia.,. At this company, he has served as Executive Vice President since 2011; Chief Operating Officer since 2013; and Executive Vice President since 2014. After his father’s death, he became Chairman and CEO in January 2015. Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez is the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and a member of the Compensation Committee. He is also a member and former President of the Board of Directors for the United States-Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce (USVCC) from 2011 to 2015, where he has served as its President since 2013. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for CITIC Group since 2008; and a member and former Vice Chairman of the Board for CITIC Limited since 2009. He has been a member and past Chairman of the Investment Committee at CITIC Group since 2010 and a member at Citic Securities Incorporated since 2010.
Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez is one of Venezuela’s leading entrepreneurs, having built his own company to become one of Venezuela’s largest construction companies, which he leads as CEO. According to “Forbes” magazine the company ranks number four in terms of revenue among Venezuelan construction companies. Betancourt’s company was awarded the Venezuela-U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Award, which recognizes companies that have had a significant impact on their communities regarding job creation, economic growth, and business efficiency. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees at Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) since 2015.
