Gino Pozzo, the current owner of Watford FC, has earned a name for himself in the football scene after transforming the club from a lower-division club to a major-league team. To him, football is more than a business. It’s also a way of life. Pozzo was born to a family passionate about football. His parents, Giuliana and Gianpaolo Pozzo are huge football fans, which may have stirred his love for the sport.

Pozzo’s Background

The Pozzo family is very famous in the world of football. While they have always been football fans, it wasn’t until 1986 that Gino’s father took an active role in the sport by buying the Udinese club. At that time, Gino Pozzo was 12 years old. He watched his father manage the club and learned the ropes then.

In 2009, the family acquired Granada FC, with Gino Pozzo at the forefront of that acquisition. At the time, the club was struggling to move beyond the third division and was also in €12m debt. This didn’t faze the Pozzo family. In just two years, they had managed to help the team rise from second division to the premier league, something that hadn’t happened in 35 years.

Running Watford Club

In 2012, the Pozzo family bought Watford Club. And just like Granada FC, Watford was also in debt and struggling to rise from the fourth division. Gino Pozzo moved to London with his family to take an active role in managing the team. In four years, Watford had risen to the Premier League.

One of Gino’s tactics is changing managers from time to time. While some people don’t agree with the approach, Scott Duxbury, Watford’s CEO, says it works. And even though managers change, the style of signing and developing players remains the same, which brings stability to the football club. See this article for additional information.
